The Government of Jamaica invited us to ‘Come ketch di riddim virtually’ with the launch of Reggae Month, 2021. The live stream event took place on Sunday January 10th, at 8pm EST on the VP Records YouTube channel.
Reggae Month in Jamaica was founded in February 2009 to highlight and celebrate the impact of the genre on the country’s social, cultural, and economic development. This year, for the first time, the launch of Reggae Month will be a virtual event via YouTube, enabling a global audience to witness the event. Scheduled performers include Marcia Griffiths, Julian Marley, Shenseea, Ding Dong, Agent Sasco and Mykal Rose.
The Jamaican Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, says “Even in the throes of the pandemic it is important that we continue to celebrate and promote Jamaica’s music to the world through Reggae Month.
The music will help us to get through these challenging times. And although we can’t be together in large numbers, we can still get together online and feel alright.” At 8pm EST on Sunday, viewers can tune in to the VP Records YouTube Channel to see all the evening’s activities.
Reggae Month is sponsored by Ministry of Tourism, Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, City of Miramar, Florida, and the Jamaican Consulate in Miami. Updates are available via the Reggae Jamaica App.
